Recently, a doctor practicing outside of the Bay Area who specializes in sleep apnea, snoring, and breathing issues, reached out to me to help her find solutions to help her patients. While talking to her, we discovered that one of the simple anti-snoring devices I offer would be the perfect initial treatment for her patients. It’s the easiest and least expensive route for her patients to take to see if this will be a good solution to help them.
During our conversation, we realized there is a large market in the Bay Area for us to help our patients with sleep-disordered breathing. We ended up finding out that we know some of the same doctors and that one particular doctor office I know has available space in her Berkeley office and can work with us to set up another sleep medicine practice.
This is a great opportunity for us to network together and help our patients in the surrounding areas. A lot of my doctors have patients they can treat to help with their sleep and breathing quality. I can now help my doctors by making an introduction to this specialist, which allows me to help more of our patients by providing our anti-snoring devices for them!
But this conversation wouldn’t have happened if I didn’t listen. The discussion could’ve ended as soon as I told her about the different products I offer — but it didn’t. Instead, I wanted to learn more about her and see if I knew anyone I could connect her with.
This goes to show how vital listening is — it can open doors you never knew existed!
While listening is something we all do, it doesn’t mean we are all good at it! With how busy our lives get, our minds are constantly running at 100 mph, making it difficult to focus on what others are saying around us. If you’re too busy thinking or focusing on other things that don’t include the person speaking to you, did you really hear them?
No matter how good we think we are at listening, even myself, I feel we all can improve. Therefore, with whomever you’re speaking, always give them your undivided attention.
You’d be surprised by the impact you can make on someone’s day just by listening to them. You can make them feel valued, appreciated, and heard. You could make someone’s entire day and not say or do anything for them — that’s how powerful listening can be! I implore you to spend less time talking
and more time listening to others and incorporate that into everything you do. Who knows? You may learn something new or even make a new connection!
