I can’t believe the day has finally come — my oldest daughter, Megan, is off to college.
It feels like yesterday I was taking her to her first dance practice, dropping her off on her first day of high school, and going with her to get her driver’s license. Wow, time sure does fly by — these past four years have gone by so fast! Although I’m still in awe that Megan is branching out on her own, I couldn’t be prouder of her. She is becoming an amazing young woman, and I’m excited to see what the future has in store for her.
Megan will be attending Chico State, and I’m looking forward to how she will adapt to college life. I never got the traditional college experience. While I had a great time, it’s nothing compared to living on campus at a university for four years. The university is about three hours away from home. She won’t be down the hall in her room, at school, at the gym, or at dance practice anymore — so I will have to adjust to that!
I’m looking forward to Megan experiencing everything college has to offer her. I hope she has a great time! But I also want her to know she can always visit home or call me when needed. I understand how nerve-wracking it can be to leave home for the first time. So, I want to be there for her however I can. While my wife, my other daughters, and I will have to make some adjustments, our excitement for her supersedes all our worries.
For those curious about what she will be studying, Megan is majoring in exercise physiology! After receiving her bachelor’s degree, she is considering her next degree in physical therapy. She is choosing this route, because of her interest in dance and fitness. Speaking of fitness, Megan got a job at the gym she and her sisters attend! She’s been working there over the summer and loved the experience! Her job has strengthened the idea of exercise physiology for her. But if she changes her major, I will support her regardless.
As summer ends and school is on the horizon, I wanted to spend as much time with Megan as possible before we move her into her dorm. We took a trip to Disneyland and made a couple of trips to the beach — one of the favorite things our girls love to do in the summer! It was great to spend quality time with my daughter and squeeze in as many memories as possible. What I’ll probably miss most about Megan being away, is saying goodnight to her every night. It’s okay — we are just a text or phone call away! While I won’t see Megan as much when school starts, I look forward to her visiting home, traveling up to Chico State, and hearing about all her experiences. Here’s to the future and all of Megan’s upcoming endeavors!
